Erich von Tschermak-Seysenegg, one of the three scientists who independently re-discovered Mendel’s laws of inheritance in 1900 was professor at the Universität für Bodenkunde (Boku) in Vienna. Since then researchers at several institutes of the Boku are involved in evolutionary research. The Molecular Ecology group at the Institute of Forest Entomology, Forest Pathology and Forest Protection focuses on phylogeographic and co-evolutionary questions of forest insects and pathogens.
